Friday 10th September 2021 marked a very special day as we attended the unveiling of London's 2nd Rainbow Plaque - dedicated to the landmark movie 'My Beautiful Laundrette'. The event took place from 4-6pm at the site of where the laundrette was based at 11 Wilcox Road, SW8.

Unveiled by the cast and crew of the film located at the site of the laundrette in the film. It was an incredibly lovely day and prompted a lot of discussion about the impact of film and culture on society’s awareness and acceptance of LGBTQ+ identities.

We are very proud to have contributed funding and support to this event.

There was delicious food by local food owner Raj who owns 'Hot Stuff' and served some really tasty Indian delights. The evening ended with a drink at Nolan's Pub at the end of Wilcox Road to toast the very successful event.

Well done to David Robson from the Wandsworth LGBTQ+ Forum for organising and pulling the whole event together with support from Lambeth Council, Studio Voltaire and Out at Clapham.

David Robson (Chair Wandsworth LGBTQ+ Forum) said

"This was a really special event for all involved and a day I will remember for a long time to come."

We hope this is the start of many more Rainbow Plaque's in Lambeth and beyond.
